Image Size: 13 x 16 inches

Botanical Information: Globe Lily Calochortus albus is a perennial. The bulbs are nutritious and were eaten by most coast and interior Salish people. Although edible raw, the bulbs were most often boiled, roasted or steamed in fire pits. When the bulb was dried, they could be ground into flour for later use. Found in Northern California in the central oak woodland, chaparral, and even into the ponderosa pine forest. The plant grows on lightly shaded banks in the coast ranges of California, south to Ventura County and can be found on the northern Channel Islands. The Globe Lily has limited distribution and is a treat to find in the wild. Because the Globe Lily is one of the most admired California native wildflowers, it has received several other descriptive names over the years, such as Fairy’s Lantern, Satin Bells, White Globe Tulip, Alabaster Tulip.
