Botanical Information: Coast Silk Tastle Tree Garryaceae is an evergreen shrub is an evergreen shrub four to eight feet tall, or a small tree that grows twenty to thirty feet high. The Silk Tastle is native to coast ranges from southern Oregon to San Luis Obisbo California. The pendulous male and female catkins are on seperate shrubs. Both plants must be present to produce grape like clusters of purple fruit on female plants. The clustered flower tastles hang from December - February. The fruit clusters hang from June - September and even longer if not eaten by Robins.
